Workstation Player XP Mode imports but VM won't start (black screen - no error)

Hi,

A few years ago, I used VM Workstation Player on a Windows 7 Pro host running "XP Mode" to run a couple of old apps that wouldn't run under Windows 7.  Always worked.

With Win7 nearing EOL support from Microsoft, I've been looking at alternatives (Linux with WINE, Windows 10 with VMs, dual boot Win7/Win 10, etc.) as I still need occasional WinXP.  However, I've decided (for now) to dual boot Win7 and Win 10, but when I install the latest Workstation Player (version 15.5) on the same exact computer and a fresh Win7Pro installation, and I install the VMware Converter Standalone Product as directed by Workstation Player, then I import XP Mode... everything seems fine as the VM for Windows XP is created.  However, when I try to launch/start/play the VM, I see a brief splash of the VMware logo/text then a black screen... nothing else... no error messages, no errors in the VM log...

I don't recall having so much difficult a few years ago.... any suggestions what I'm doing wrong (or if this is a bug in Player 15.5)?  I don't recall which Workstation Player version I installed in the past that seemed to always work just fine.

Regards,
Fred
