fcoe on vmplayer with centos.

Hi,

I am trying to setup fcoe on centos on vmplayer. I am at the stage where I need to enable dcb on eth0. I read that there is a software only adapter for vsphere that supports dcb. Is this even possible with the vmplayer adapters? Is it possible to setup fcoe on vmplayer?

Thanks,

Kevin.

New Guest problems No Internet or keyboard

Hi, I have a win7pro x64 guest running, almost.

I have installed the VMWare tools and adjusted the screen resolution as the mouse works OK. But, I have no keyboard input. This is a bit weird because the Mouse and Keyboard are a Logitec K270 RF-set that use a single Rx module on the win8.0 USB-Host. Mouse is good, keyboard doesn't do anything.

Next, there is no Internet connection. I have set the Network to "Home Network" and the wired network is working fine as I can connect from the Guest to other PCs on our home network.

What do I need to do to get this working so I can run windows update as it is a very old copy of win7.

My other VMs (win2000, XP) work fine.

Thanks

Slow Download Speed on Player.

Recently, out of the kindness of their heart, my ISP upgraded my connection to provide 300 Mbps (from 50 Mbps) download speed.  It measures slightly over this speed and with a good Download manager keeps the DL speed right at 300 - 320 Mbps.  This is all on my host system.  On VMware Player average DL speed is about half.  Please see image below:

P10.jpgOn the right is a large DL (1.7 GB file) using my host and on the left is same conditions on my VM.  Each vertical dotted line is 30 seconds.  I did some research and was told to use a Bridged connection.  I changed my NAT to bridged with no effect.  I also turned off the Windows FW on the guest to no effect.  The first question is what maximum speed should I expect?  I read about changing the virtual adapter, but it looks like Player does not offer this option.  Is there changes I can make that would allow my VM to have about the same DL speed as my host gets from my ISP?  Thanks for any comments and help.  John.

This seem to be a "neverending error" as I have seen it popping up in the discussions since 2008/2009.

I am on Fedora 20 and just installed VMWare Player 6.0.3.

My guest OS fails with this error on startup:

Could not open /dev/vmmon: Ingen slik fil eller filkatalog.

Please make sure that the kernel module `vmmon' is loaded.

followed by

Failed to initialize monitor device.

and then the player shuts down. Is there any hope this error will be fixed once and for all and do anyone have a "quick fix" for this so I can get my system up and running?

Thanks in advance.

Commercial use

Commercial Use

VMware Player is also now available for commercial use. A commercial  license for VMware Player 5 is included with VMware Fusion 5  Professional to enable customers to  run virtual machines on Windows or Linux PCs and on Macs using a single  license key!

Do I get this right ? - to use VMplayer on Windows or Linux in a commerical context we have to buy a Fusion license ?

Sounds very strange to me - similar to going to a fruit-shop to buy an apple and getting the response: we dont sell apples - buy a banana and you will get one apple for free

CADWorx Plant Steel mouse issues

We are getting some strange mouse activity which is only present when working on the VM. What happens is that anytime the mouse touches a steel component in the model it throws the cursor instantly to the top left of the screen. I have played some of the mouse settings, but we can't seem to find a solution to this. Has anyone ever had this issue?

Problems booting QNX 6.5 with VM Player 5.0.2 under Windows 8

Hello,

I install VM Player 5.0.2 without problems on my Windows 8 laptop.  I run VM Player 5.0.2 to create a new virtual machine from qnxsdp-6.5.0-x86-201007091524-nto.iso.  The virtual machine is created without problems and appears in left panel of VM Player window.  The problem arises when I try to play the VM.  I get the screen below but there is no response to pressing F3 or F2.  The boot of the VM appears to just hang.  I am being prompted to select between 2 choices:

F2 - Run from CD (Hard Disk filesystems mounted under /fs)

F3 - Install QNX to a new disk partition

Select? _

Pressing F2 or F3 produces no response we are just hung.   I can suspend the VM and then try to play again but same thing just happens.  I am attaching screen shot of the VM screen also.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions,

Rob

How to copy files from guest directly to second HDD? (while skipping %appdata% on the C: drive)

I recently attempted to copy 60GB of files from an Ubuntu guest to a Windows 8.1 host, but the files were actually copied to 'C:\%appdata%\Local\VMWare\...' first before being copied to D:\ (where all my VMs are saved and where I specified it should copy the files to). After it finished copying, I went into the VMware local %appdata% folder and manually deleted the folder with all the files, but the space is still taken up even though the files are 'deleted' and I'm out of 60GB on an SSD (but that's another problem). Is there a way to skip the part where it copies the files to the %appdata% folder first and just have it copy directly to D:\?

More info:

VMware is installed where it should be by default (on C:\ and in the 32-bit program files)

Everything else is on my HDD (D:\, all my files and VMs are located there)

Hello,

I have a question about the Physical memory on my virtual machine. Only 3071 MB of physical memory is allocated as max even as I have set 8192 MB as max in the settings. Are there a additional setting I need to do ?

Please help!

Ubutnu ip address same as host

Hi.I also am completely new to VMware Player which I am using for Ubuntu 12.04.

My Host computer is Windows Server 2008.

This is network setting for host computer:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix  . :

IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.100

Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0

Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1

On Ubuntu I need to have same address as my host computer(192.168.1.100). When I set NAT option in  VMware Player, Ubuntu does not have internet.

What I need to do to get same address as host?

Thanks!

I have tried searching all over for a solution but have been unable to find one that works.

I am running CentOS 7 and am trying to install VMware Workstation 7.  Whenever I try to start vmware it says that it cant find the needed kernel headers and asks me to browse for them.  For every location I try it says "C header files matching your running kernel were not found".

Internal Error (WinsCard.dll ? )

Hi folks.   I"m  running the VmwarePlayer 6.0.3   build-1895310

virtual Machine:

Windows XP Home Edition 5.1.2600, Service Pack 3

@ the Host computer:

DELL XPS  Win 8.1  x64

Processor    Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4790 CPU @ 3.60GHz, 3601 Mhz,

4 kärnor, 8 logiska processorer

And the host machine had some trouble lately, with some specific dll files. Someone installed applications that messed up things, or other conflict issue.
So in order to analyze some processes running on the Win 8.1 machine I usally turn on my virtual machine (XP)
wich has some msdebug /developer tools at it. But suddenly when trying to start the vmwareplayer this shows up !

http://i62.tinypic.com/2rw2ezs.jpg

So it concern the WinsCard.dll  and others as this topic shows:

Cannot repair member file [l:24{12}]"WinSCard.dll" of Microsoft-Windows-SmartCardSubsystemClient,Version=6.3.9600.16408, pA =
Cannot repair member file [l:36{18}]"Amd64\CNBJ2530.DPB" of prncacla.inf,

=  I did some attempts of repairing this. with some commands on the host:

C:\Windows\system32>DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool

Version: 6.3.9600.17031

Image Version: 6.3.9600.17031

And it seems to work! I could succesful start vmware player, but when trying to  power up my machine it says internal error:

12.jpg

Hot to fix this !?
There must be some sort of maintance , repair to do on the virtualmachine?

Some essential of the logfile found at  AppData\Local\Temp\vmware-RIHTT =  didnt copy it all because security reasons but heres some info about the attempt starting the vdkm:

Guest display split into identical panes

I have Ubuntu 12.04 LTS linux running in a VMWare Player 6 VM, in a Win7 host.

This install has been stable for >2yrs, but after some Ubuntu updates today, my screen now boots into 3 repeated and truncated panes.  See bottom of msg for how the display shows.

I found this VMWare KB article that describes the issue, but I'm unsure this applies to Player6:

VMware KB: Linux Guest Display Splits into Multiple Panes with Identical Content

I had installed VMWare Tools using the Player controls, but running the prescribed command in Ubuntu terminal:

sudo vmware-config-tools.pl --overwritesvga

....doesn't do anything, just gets me to the man pages for this config package.

Help appreciated!  I'm unable to use this VM as is.

   Hi everyone,

I am trying to build a home lab to learn about information security, and i didn't have any issues downloading the VM machine and the Ubuntu ISO image; however, i am having an issue of launching Ubuntu; the

error says " unable to create new virtual machine: access " my location " due to file system permission issues. Any idea on how I can fix this issue  ?

VMware Player on Mageia 4

I am unable to install VMware-Player-6.0.3-1895310.x86_64.bundle on Mageia 4.

I have downloaded it twice, verifying the check sum second time round. Despite making it executable,

it claims the installer is installed but it isn't.

The log is attached.  My reading of it doesn't inspire confidence.

Someone on another newsgroup wrote that java must be installed. It is.

Can someone help?

TIA

unable to load hypervisor due to OVF. OVF to VMX

Hi I am trying to load a version of Websohere hypervisor which is a ovf format but it isnt working and I keep getting this error....

" did not pass OVF specification conformance or virtual hardware compliance checks.

Click Retry to relax OVF specification and virtual hardware compliance checks and try the import again, or click Cancel to cancel the import. If you retry the import, you might not be able to use the virtual machine in VMware Player."

My understanding was that I needed to convert the ovf to vmx!

I ve tried using the ovf tool to convert to .vmx but that also isnt working. I get the following error when trying to convert....

"Error: Failed to open OVF descriptor"

If anyone could shed some light that would be great,

thanks,

Scott

Also the vmdx file which is about 12gb

Thank you.
