Will Updating, Requiring Uninstalling, Make Me Reinstall Programs?

My VMware Player alerted me to update for security purposes, etc. In the process, I closed my VMware Player which has acrobat, pagemaker, quickbooks installed on it.

The setup wizard for VMware Player says I must uninstall v 6.0.1 to proceed. If I do that, will I have to reinstall acrobat, pagemaker, quickbooks?

If yes, and if I'm not accessing the Internet from the VMware Player (XP, acrobat, pagemaker, quickbooks), is it necessary to update if the system is working fine? I sooooooo... don't want to have to do this.
