vmplayer position on Windows 10 desktop

I have dual displays on a Windows 10 PC.  I would like vmplayer.exe to open on my second display when started.  Is there an option for an .ini file or maybe command line arguments to specify position of the VMWare Player window on my desktop?

Thanks,

Kernel headers for version 3.10.0-514.el7.x8664 were not found (CentOS7 64 bit)

I am attempting to install VMWare Player but can't discover what I am missing.  I have gotten through the gcc install, make install, etc but hit the brick wall when I get to the VMWare Kernel module updater.  I googled the problem and did see some references to Debian with a workaround of "Use another supported OS".  Well, CentOS7 is definitely supported but I don't see what the problem is.

I did install   kernel-devel, gcc, kernel-3.10.0-514.el7.src.rpm, linux-headers-3.10.0-514.el7.x86_64 (after a dpkg-query -s linux-headers-$(uname -r).  To open a support case with VMWare I guess I have to solve this on my own because I have not gotten far enough to register for the 30 day email complimentary support.

Oddly enough I did have this running on a Debian box but switched to CentOS due to some video  driver issues

Any ideas?

Problem mit Workstation Player 14.1 nach Update auf Windows 10 - 1709

Hallo!

Can Secure boot be enabled on VMWare Workstation Player 14?

Hi,

I read the Workstation Player & Pro product comparison here. It shows that Workstation Player 14 does support Secure Boot.

I am not getting how to enable the same for say Windows 10 guest.

Can someone help?

I am aware of the line

firmware = "efi"

being added in the VMX file. However how do you go about enabling secure boot?

Any clarity would be great to know. Thanks.

Keyboard Not Working after VMWare Conversion

Hello,

I'm trying to run a VMware Conversion of an old laptop as a backup. I've run a VMware conversion and converted it to a vm 9 image file.

When it gets opened in VMware Player everything works except for the keyboard inputs. The only way I can type on the screen is using either the on screen keyboard or connecting in with TeamViewer.

Looking in Device Manager shows that the following error.

Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

Has anyone come across this before and know if a solution?

Thanks

Peter Sheridan

Two NICs on one host and two guest VMs

$

Hello to all,

I have two virtual machines on one host. Both virtual machines are started in VMWare Player 14. Is there any way I can assign each NIC to specific VM?

What I want to achieve is the following:

- each virtual machine should be connected to its own network (completely separated networks)

- two VMs share private network

- physical LAN cables from two separate networks are connected to host's NICs

The problem I have is that somehow both VMs are bridging to the same physical NIC on the host. I have tried to use option "replicate physical" but no success.

The set up is the following:

- each VM has defined two network adapters, one is in bridge mode, other is specific VMNet0 (for internal network between two VMs).

The problem is that vmware player doesn't have an option to specifically bridge VM1 to physical NIC1 and VM2 to physical NIC2.

Any advice is highly appreciated.

Thank you

VMWare and lower resolution blurry resizing

Hello,

I have an XP guest running on 1920x1080 (by design), and my host is Windows 10 on 4k.

Resize up is done with a blurry filter, can it be disabled and switched for nearest neighborhood.

I do not want to go 4k on XP, i just need a crispy resize.

So I accidentally trashed my vmdk file. I was able to recover it using a data recovery tool, but now I'm not having any luck with the command -->  vmware-vdiskmanager -R Server.vmdk

I keep getting a message file is corrupted and cannot be repaired. The interesting thing though is that the log files are all different sizes and have different content. Does that mean that its repairing the file in small segments? Some logs are 3-100+MB

The log file has:

-lots of entries with Invalid GD or RGD [123213] : 2132141561,123213 vs 123213,343433

-lots of entries with Grain #numbers @morenumbers is pointed to by multiple GTEs

-ends each time with <<< file Throttled >>>

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I saw some posts by continuum but wasn't able to follow exactly. Thanks in advance

Guest Machines Do Not Show in VMPlayer Library

My vmware player does not show gest machines in the library. My troubleshooting suggests its a permissions error on whereever the library data is stored.

When I try to open a guest machine  the player does not show the  guest in the inventory pane of the  player. However I can run  vmplayer /path/to/machine.vmx and the machine  will open execute  properly.

When  I run vmware player as root (or even a regular user) it works   correctly - so it seems clearly tied to my user account. I have tried rm  -rf ~/.vmware and rerunning the player but I  get the same behavior.

The problem happens with all guest machines - so it does not appear to be related to anything about a machine itself.

Does anyone know where vmware player stores the inventory data? Nothing in the  ~/.vmware directory seems to be related to this, but the library data must be persisted somewhere. Where is this file?

I'm running vmware player 3.1.3 build-324285 on Ubuntu Linux  2.6.31-22-generic-pae Ubuntu 9.10.

Thanks for any help.

Trying to use Workstation Player 12 at a multiuser-environment

Hi there.

I'm trying to use the VMware-Workstation-Player 12 at a Ubuntu-16.04 LTS Client with a multiuser-environment.

Actually I've installed the VMware-Player by using the admin-account and I've configured a WIN-10 as guest.

Now I tried to use this VM with a normal user-profile. The installation of the guest is located at /opt/vmware. It accords necessary rights to every user (read / write).

Now, at the first startup by using a normal user-account, VMware asks for a valid email for registration. At the next step I select the existing installation of the WIN-10-guest at /opt/vmware.

After choosing the *.vmx - file, the virtual machine appears at the library. If I try to start it, nothing happens. There is no problem report, not a flashing of the desktop, nothing.

I hope, I could explain the problem. Is there a possibility to fix it?

Thanks,

Stefan

How do I start to diagnose an issue

I have a win10 machine with VMWare Workstation 14 running on it running a Windows 7 VM.  My problem is that it starts fine and runs for a period of a few hours and the abruptly crashes.  After it crashes there are no messages (that I know how to access!) and it starts right back up with no issues, only to crash again a few hours later.

What steps can I take to begin to diagnose what is going on?

Appreciate any assistance!

Installing Windows 10 on Legacy mode with Workstation Player

Hello everyone.

What I'm trying to do is install Windows 10 on Legacy BIOS mode in a virtual machine created in Workstation Player. The host OS is on UEFI. When installing Windows 10 on a virtual machine, I don't get the option to chose between Legacy or UEFI mode.

Is it possible to configure a virtual machine for legacy BIOS if it's running on a host machine on UEFI?

Does Workstation Player 14 support port forwarding, and if so how do you set it up?

$

I am using VMware Workstation Player 14 on a windows 7 host. I would like to setup port forwarding so that I can ssh into the linux guest from other machines. Searches on this forum and elsewhere on the internet indicate that - at least in earlier versions - this could be done via the vmnetnat.conf file, but I don't see this file anywhere in my installation. I have also seen references to a "Virtual Network Editor", but I don't see this installed either. I see no relevant options under the Virtual Machines Settings. I am currently using the free version for evaluation.

So ... does Workstation Player 14 support port forwarding, and if so how do you set it up?

Linux Installation So Slow, Has To Run Overnight.

Linux Mint is the main OS on my laptop and up till now I have used VMWare Player as a hypervisor

to run Windows 10 as a VM. Now I have had to reinstall Linux and assumed I could use VMWare as before.

Where to begin with the problems ? At the beginning, I suppose.

First, although I tried to download Player, I ended up directed to downloading Workstation and got this file :

VMware-Workstation-Full-14.1.1-7528167.x86_64.bundle

Later I did manage manage to download this :

VMware-Player-14.1.1-7528167.x86_64.bundle

Now both look like their job is to install a VMWare product.

The problems start when you actually try to run these jobs.

First, they appear as a normal text file with code that looks like C ( or some similar language ).

Second, there is a green bar near the top of the screen, presumably showing the extent to which the installation has progressed.

The problem is that this bar fills up microscopically slowly.

Thirdly, at the bottom right of the window it says something like : Line 347648 col 144.

This presumably is supposed to show exactly what part of the code is actually being executed at the time.

Sometimes a given Line/col combination will remain visible for minutes.

I kicked off the Workstation job at approx 8pm.

By 1am the bar was only about a third full so I left it running while I went to bed.

When I woke up and reactivated the laptop the job had finished.

However the only VMWare files anywhere on the system are those installation jobs.

Any chance at all that I could actually get these installations to run successfully ?
